What innovative processes has Yamagata Optics developed for the lens industry to reduce stray light?

During discussions with R&D engineers at leading lens manufacturers, it’s common to hear about the various innovations and improvements they implement to eliminate stray light. Many of these issues stem from problems with the lens hood—most notably, uneven thickness. Some manufacturers use inexpensive domestic materials that fail to ensure consistent thickness tolerances within… 1um within, thereby causing issues with lens spacing and focusing, while Yamagata Optics IQC Imported raw materials undergo rigorous inspection to ensure compliance with all applicable standards. Secondly, the cut‑out lens hoods have not been treated to suppress stray light, resulting in issues when customers assemble them into finished lenses. Flare When stray light is poor, To eliminate this stray light, our company has been… 2006 year Starting a business , adhering to the customer-centric development philosophy, we consistently exceed customer expectations, resolve their challenges, and pursue continuous technological innovation. After more than a decade of research and development, Successfully obtained multiple invention patents and utility model patents, The lens hood is flat‑angled, with a matte interior. Single-sided chamfer on the inner bore, single-sided. Full chamfering, double-sided chamfering, and four generations of proprietary matte‑finishing solutions have been independently developed. Currently, internal‑hole chamfering is required in high‑end smartphones and automotive lenses. 60° 、 45° 、 30° A specialized lens hood with a chamfered edge has now been developed and manufactured. The inner wall of the hood features a thinner cross-section, and its inner surface has undergone a matte‑frosted finish, thereby reducing light reflection onto the lens. FLARE Once these undesirable phenomena are completely eliminated, the light‑shielding ring with chamfered inner bores can significantly mitigate optical quality issues such as flare and ghosting, thereby boosting the lens assembly yield.

The following presents the extinction‑enhancing agents from the first to the fourth generation:

The following showcases the latest double-sided, fully chamfered product, currently in stable mass production:

  1. Chamfering reduces the cross-sectional thickness of the product and decreases the reflective area of the internal bore, thereby reducing… FLAER generate
  2. The chamfer angle is adjustable; by simulating the optical path, the chamfer angle can be designed and the optical path modified to reduce… FLARE
  3. Modify the product’s physical structure; customer validation confirms that the chamfered product exhibits a more stable physical structure, with double-sided chamfering on the inner bore.

Double-sided chamfering eliminates the need to distinguish between the front and back sides, removing the requirement to flip the part during assembly, thereby reducing assembly costs and improving assembly efficiency.

Advantages: No need for facet-based or directional recognition, and no need to perform… C-Cut.D-cut. No need to mark a single side to identify the direction.

The following are samples of single-sided chamfers:

Assembly requires identification. Direction , a gap may be adopted, Single-strip pattern Screen printing and other identification methods are available, but the chamfer angle can be adjusted to suit different requirements, enabling more precise suppression of stray light; angle adjustment is also supported. 30° 、 45° 、 60°

Upholding the craftsman’s spirit of ten years of meticulous refinement, we have always been acutely aware of Yamagata Optics’ mission and responsibility: to provide the optics industry with the most trustworthy products and services.

Serrated-Aperture Diaphragms for Stray-Light Suppression

Yamagata Optical's patented serrated aperture-edge design offers clear advantages over conventional wavy-edge designs. This innovative geometry provides highly effective stray-light suppression. It reflects our long-standing commitment to advancing precision optical components through research and engineering innovation.

Ion Coating Dramatically Reduces Baffle-Ring Reflectance

Yamagata Optical's ion-coating process reduces baffle-ring reflectance by a factor of 8.6. In addition to multiple solutions for suppressing stray light at the aperture edge, we can apply an ultra-low-reflectance ion coating to both sides of the film used to manufacture baffle rings. After treatment, reflectance can fall below 0.3%, substantially improving camera-module optical performance.

Yamagata Optics lens hood ion plating technology

After ion-plating treatment, Yamagata Optics has achieved an 8.6-fold reduction in the reflectance of its aperture. Currently, in addition to multiple anti-glare and stray-light suppression solutions for the inner bore of the aperture, Yamagata Optics can also apply ultra-low-reflection ion-plating to both sides of the raw-material light-shielding film. Following this anti-reflection treatment, the reflectance can be reduced to below 0.3%, significantly enhancing the optical performance of the camera.

The Ultra-Black Revolution in Optics From 5% to 0.1% Reflectance: How Yamagata Optical Is Advancing Photonics

In optical imaging, light can be both essential and disruptive. An unwanted ray may reflect off a lens-barrel wall, scatter from a spacer ring or diffract at a baffle edge. The result can be ghosting, halos, light streaks, ripple-like artifacts or veiling glare that washes out the image. Together, these forms of stray light undermine image clarity, contrast and signal-to-noise ratio.
